How to renew your 2025 membership online:

Renewal of your U3A Warwick Inc membership can be done online in the convenience of your home. This includes for members who are located in either Warwick or Goondiwindi.

From the menu of this website select “Membership.” This will take you to the Membership page.
Go to the bottom of the Membership page and select the [Renewing Member] box. (This applies to both Warwick and Goondiwindi members). This will take you to a “Renew Your Membership” web page.
Enter your email address. This MUST be the email address that has been supplied to U3A and will be the email address where you receive emails from U3A. (If you do not enter the correct email address this process will fail).
Check your email. You should receive an email containing an invoice for your renewal. The system will know your membership details for 2024 and will invoice you for continuation of the same membership type for 2025.
The email will give 2 options for online payment.

Click the link “Pay here by credit card” on the emailed invoice. This is powered by STRIPE which is a secure system where you simply enter your credit card details and security code. Your membership details will be automatically updated in our Member Wizard database, the invoice will be paid and a receipt automatically forwarded to your email address on successful completion. (There is a very small card fee charged when STRIPE is used.) This is our preferred method of receiving payment as it greatly reduces workload and reduces the possibility of errors being made by both the members and the treasurer.
Should you prefer to pay by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), details of the Warwick Credit Union account will also be provided on the emailed invoice so that payment by EFT can be carried out. If paying by EFT, please make sure that you clearly identify who the payment is from and what it is for (eg “Renew”). A receipt will be emailed to you, but this will not happen immediately as the system update and receipting has to be carried out manually by the treasurer when time permits.

If your details have changed (eg: address, phone number, emergency contact etc), please advise the treasurer (Mark Agnew) at treasurer@u3awarwick.org.au or by phone on 0428 889 794. Please also call the treasurer if you require assistance with the above process.

U3A Warwick Update

December 1, 2024

Classes for Term 4 end on Friday December 13 and U3A Warwick will go into recess until Term 1, 2025. Please note some classes will continue through the summer break. Please consult your class leader.

Important dates for members:

Sign-on days: Thursday January 23rd and Friday January 24th from 10am to 2.00pm.

The Term 1 newsletter will be distributed on or about January 17th, 2025. This 12-page newsletter, which will be emailed to members, will contain detailed information about courses and classes offered by U3A Warwick in 2025. Hard copies will be available at sign-on days.

Term 1, 2025 resumes on Monday January 27th

Membership Page

You must be a current financial member of U3A Warwick Inc to participate in all our classes and many of our social activities. (Note that you may attend 2 classes without enrolling, to confirm that you do wish to join. Also, some social events/activities may be open to members' friends/family or the public. Notification will be given if this is the case.) Once a member, you may access as many classes as you like - there are no further class costs (except for materials or room hire where relevant). Please note that most social events/activities will incur an additional cost.

Membership is for a calendar year (1 January to 31 December). A half yearly membership applies after 1 July

U3A Warwick Inc provides classes in both Warwick and Goondiwindi. Different membership charges apply to the two locations due to Warwick having its own rooms, while Goondiwindi must hire a venue and pass on costs to course participants.

U3A Warwick Inc membership costs for Warwick located classes.

> Our annual fee is currently $40.00

> Our half year fee is currently $25.00. This applies to memberships received between 1 July and 30 September and provides membership to 31 December of that year.

> Our annual fee for memberships received after 1^st October is the cost of membership for the following full year (currently $40.00) and includes membership to 31 December of the following year.

U3A Warwick Inc membership costs for Goondiwindi located classes.

> Our annual Goondiwindi located member fee is currently $25.00

> Our half year fee is currently $15.00. This applies to Goondiwindi located memberships received between 1 July and 30 September and provides Goondiwindi located membership to 31 December of that year.

When you apply to join or renew online, you will be emailed an invoice which will include payment instructions. You will have the choice of paying your membership fees online by credit card using our “Stripe” system or direct deposit to the U3A Warwick Inc bank account.

U3A elects new committee for 2025

Louize Fulton was re-elected president of U3A Warwick Inc at the annual general meeting on Friday November 29. Thirty members attended the meeting.

At last year’s AGM, Louize, who was then vice-president stepped into the president’s role after Sally Edwards had to stand down because of a personal matter.

Returning officer Ed Diery declared the executive committee of Louize Fulton (President), Mark Agnew (Treasurer) Jennifer Stark (Secretary) and Grahame Peacock (Vice-President) elected unopposed.

Committee members elected were Bob Wilson, Rhonda Cooney, Brian Murray and Trish Syphers (Goondiwindi). Marianne Whitby, Maureen Sutcliffe and Sally Edwards did not stand for re-election.

In her president’s report, Louize Fulton announced the dates for registration days in January 2025. Classes will resume on Monday January 27, 2025. Registration days will be on Thursday January 23 and Friday January 24 at the U3A Rooms at 1 Tooth Street. Members can sign on in person or apply and make payment online. Full details for sign-on days and a comprehensive report on the AGM will be published in the newsletter, New Tricks!, which will be distributed in the week before registration. The newsletter will feature information about new and existing courses in 2024.

U3A Warwick now has a Facebook page. It is a private group page so you need to apply to join. Only members can post and posts will be approved (or not) by a panel of administrators. Wildflowers galore at Girraween National Park.

Laurel Wilson's Town and Country Walks group ventured to Girraween National Park on August 28 after hearing reports of early spring wildflowers. The small group (three apologies from people nursing injuries), took the 4km return walk to The Junction where two rivers meet.

What is a U3A?

U3As provide learning, social and physical activities to retirees. Run by volunteers, we offer a great community to help you get the most out of your retirement.

\nWhy is attending a U3A good for my mental and physical health?\n

Social connection is important for mental and physical health and links to our sense of self, group identities, sense of purpose and quality of life. How we experience and view the world and how we were raised within our family, or our culture, can shape our understanding and perception of being and connecting in the world.

The evidence tells us:

1 in 4 Australians, aged 12 - 89 years, experience 'problematic' loneliness (approximately 5 million people).

Some research indicates that Australians over 65 years are often less lonely than younger people and experience less depression, social anxiety and are more engaged socially.

A recent survey by the Federation of nine Councils on the Ageing (COTA) across Australia suggests that of 22% of Queenslanders aged 50 years and over were not content with their friendships and relationships, 5% hadn't had contact with anyone in a week and 8% felt lonely all or most of the time.

The same survey indicates that older Queenslanders find support for their wellbeing (and mental health) through family and friends, exercising, good nutrition, hobbies, connecting with nature and through staying connected with digital technology.

Connecting with friends, family, acquaintances and even one-off or semi-regular casual interactions, can assist in preventing or alleviating social isolation and the feeling of loneliness. Good health adds life to years.

What happens at a U3A?

U3As provide opportunities for you to try something new, make friends and share your knowledge and skills with others. Courses range from physical fitness to desk-based classes, language studies, art and craft classes, social activities and more.

Do I need to be a member to attend any courses or activities?

Yes - only financial members are eligible to attend any courses or activities.

May I try a class prior to joining U3A Warwick Inc?

Prospective members may attend classes twice at no cost prior to joining, to ensure that the course meets expectation.

How much does it cost?

Refer to the “Membership” tab on this website for the costs of annual membership. Becoming a member enables you to enrol in classes with no additional payment, unless specifically noted in the information for that activity. There are costs associated with most U3A Warwick Inc held social events and functions. Costs for events and functions will be notified in advertising material/emails and newsletters.

Where is U3A Warwick Inc located?

We have rooms at 1 Tooth Street. corner of Wood Street, Warwick.

U3A Warwick Inc also provides limited classes in Goondiwindi. Contact the Course Co-ordinator or Goondiwindi course tutor for Goondiwindi class locations.

Is U3A Warwick Inc accessible?

Our Warwick location is accessible for mobility impaired people.

Check with the Goondiwindi tutor on venue accessibility for Goondiwindi held classes if mobility is an issue.

Do I need to study for exams?

Part of the fun of attending a U3A is that there are no exams or assessments but learning for the joy of learning.

What educational level do I need to have to go to the U3A?

The U3A model does not require any prior educational level.

Are children able to accompany members to a class or activity?

No - under no circumstances may a child accompany a member to a class or activity.

Is there a limit to the number of classes I can join?

Your membership allows you to join an unlimited number of classes and activities pending availability and subject to clashes of classes. There is a waitlist for some classes. There is typically no fee per class - your membership fee covers all tuition. There will only be a charge if this is required to cover the cost of providing the course. We have four terms each year aligned with Queensland state school terms. Breaks between terms align with Queensland state school holidays.

Can I join the U3A Warwick Inc at any time of the year?

You may join U3A Warwick Inc for both Warwick classes and Goondiwindi classes at any time during the year. Refer to the “Membership” tab on this website for details of costs and discounts that apply for joining part way through the year.

How much time will I need to set aside?

Our classes typically run for approximately 2 hours.

Specific class run times will be listed on the class timetable or advised by the tutor.

What if I can't attend a class or wish to drop out?

Please advise the tutor if you are unable to attend or wish to cancel. Three consecutive unexplained absences from a class may result in a deletion from the class or activity. As some classes have a waiting list, members are requested to advise the tutor or the U3A course coordinator if they no longer wish to attend.
